📋 How to Get a Study Permit
Follow these 7 steps to study in Canada.
Get Accepted by a DLI
⏱ 1-6 monthsApply and get an acceptance letter from a Designated Learning Institution in Canada.
Get Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL)
Since January 2024, most students need a PAL from their province of study.
Prepare Financial Proof
⏱ 1-4 weeksShow proof of tuition payment + $20,635 CAD/year for living expenses (or GIC for SDS).
Take Language Test
⏱ 2-4 weeksIELTS, CELPIP, TEF, or TCF — required for SDS, recommended for regular stream.
Apply Online
⏱ 1-2 hoursCreate IRCC account, fill the application, upload documents, and pay fees.
Biometrics & Medical Exam
⏱ 1-4 weeksGive biometrics at a IRCC collection point and complete medical exam if required.
Receive Permit & Travel
Get your approval letter (POE letter), then travel to Canada and receive your study permit at the border.
